Hungary continues to be one of the top countries regarding head and neck cancer incidence and mortality. The number of diagnostic and treatment innovations during the last 5 years exceeds those of the previous 30 years altogether. In the present work, we aim to review the novelties in the diagnostic work up (liquid biopsies, functional imaging, TNM 9.), as well as new strategies in surgical oncology (transoral robotic and laser surgery), treatment de-escalation of HPV associated oropharyngeal cancers and the new indications of the immune checkpoint inhibitors in the treatment of head and neck cancers.
